We were fortunate to pull out win in Tennessee. It was through the grace of God that we were able to pull it out. Due to some false statements in the NCAA press release, the program was hurt. We played a very good team in the University of Cumberland, and Coach Alexander does great job; they were Conference Champions last year, and they have a strong team this year. I think Coach Alexander does a tremendous job there. We pulled together a small group of our players in order to play that game. It was a tough game for us but we pulled it out.

John Shuman does a tremendous job at Fork Union. They are probably the best Prep School team I have seen in a long time; they are very big, physical, and athletic. John has built a dynasty there at Fork Union, and the proof is in the pudding: 2 Heisman trophy winners in Vinnie Testaverde and Eddie George, with over 80 players in NFL, with over 15 of those being #1 draft picks. Through the grace of God we were able to pull out a victory against them. We are hoping that we can build our program like those of Fork Union, Milford, or Hardgrave. Through the untrue statements by the NCAA, our program was hurt for this game as well, and it was truly a miracle from God to pull out a win. I have never seen the righteous forsaken.

Ferrum has a great football program and tradition. They have many players in the NFL, one of the most as a D3 program. They are a very well-coached football team on both offense and defense. They have 4-5 All-Conference players on Offense as well as Defense. It was a tough football game for us and very physical, and I think it allowed our team to get into full swing. Ferrum was coming off a 7-3 year, and they are a very good team. I cannot emphasize how well coached of a team they were and what great program they have there.

Northern Ohio University had very good football team, and beautiful facilities. To be able to go in and get a win in Ohio on the same weekend as Kirk Herbstreit’s “Ohio vs World” weekend was big. They were also very well coached and a first-class program. Ohio football is generally first class and we were fortunate to get a win. We also visited Ohio State University while we were up there; it was great time- Coach Tressel is great man and coach who runs a great program. The facilities at OSU were immaculate, first class. Justin Siems is apparently doing very well as has impressed Coach Tressel at his ability to adjust to Ohio State from NC Tech as well as he has.

New Jersey has great football, and Rowan in no exception. This was a tough game, but our team played well both offense & defense. We had some great individual performances; Descion Baskerville had 125 yds rushing and is on pace to break the NC Tech rushing record. We also had great QB play in the game.

I am excited about our win over Jireh Prep Thursday night. It was a great win to start the season off. I think Bishop Feely is doing a great job over at Jireh, and I think that program is getting better every year. We were able to roll up over 500 yards of total offense, however, I feel like we could have produced more, but we had some “first-game” mistakes that cost us. I cannot take anything from Jireh, as I feel that they are a fine football team. We had some individual performances worth mentioning: Darius Thomas was 16 of 22 for 230 yards and a TD, Also, Deschion Baskerville, the three-star Running Back out of Jacksonville, FL, had 84 yards rushing on 10 attempts. We had some defensive standouts as well; Jeff Parrish had a 80-yard interception return for a touchdown. The defense also forced 4 more interceptions as well as 20 tackles behind the line of scrimmage on their way to their 5th consecutive shutout of Jireh. Coach Hawkins and Coach Lesko are doing a great job with the Wide Receivers, and Coach Worthington had an excellent first game as Defensive Coordinator. Worthington, as well as Coaches Cook and Lesko, has a bright future ahead of him. The Tigers have already had a number of kids offered by SEC schools; Marcus Berg has been offered by Oklahoma State, Memphis, and signed with Ole Miss. DeMarcus Knight signed with Ole Miss and was offered by Miami. Artice Kellam also signed with Ole Miss, and was also offered by Minnesota, South Carolina, and Tennessee Charles Holmes signed with South Carolina. Kendall Houston, who was offered by Southern Miss and South Alabama, will also look to play a big role in the Tigers’ running game this year.

I am very excited about the upcoming season, as we have been going through some personnel changes, shaving off the “dead weight” and trying to build a staff based on character. We have some of the top players in the country coming to us this year, which only heightens our excitement and expectations for this year. Coach Worthington is hard at work on the Defensive side of the ball, and I look forward to what our defense can do under him. I am excited about the new coaches; Johnson, Olchowik, Cunningham, and Lesko, who is doing very well as the webmaster and offensive intern. This might prove to be our finest year both on offense and defense. It is always good to have personnel that know who they are and what they are doing on and off the field.

6/16/09

I am very excited about the upcoming year, we have made some personnel changes. Coach Lesko, coming from Wofford College, will look to improve our receiving core along with coach Hawkins. We have also named a new assistant line coach, coach Cunningham. We are still looking for one of the best o-line coaches to join us. We are shaving the "dead weight" off in order that we might improve from day to day. We have signed 10 players with the SEC, 4 players with the MAC, 3 players Big East, as well as a host of Div I-AA signees. This should be a very interesting year for us. Coach Lesko will also be serving as the SID and Webmaster, and we are looking for him to take us to a new level. Look for the team to unveil our new uniforms when we open on Aug 13th.

4/30/09

I am looking forward to the upcoming season. I am very excited about our WR, Coach Biggs has been doing a tremendous job with them along with Coach Hawkins. I am super excited about our D. Coach Worthington is doing a great job over there along with Coach Bell, Coach Cook, and Coach Guy. I am super excited about Coach A’s lifeskills program. On paper this is actually the best football team here at NC Tech. I’m super excited that the opportunities our players from last year got. We have a kid going to Ohio State, Auburn, Pittsburgh, Ohio, a kid possibly going to Colorado. A lot of the Big 10 and SEC schools have been recruiting our kids. It was a great learning experience for our staff to go to the University of Tennessee and learn from Coach Kiffins staff. We are looking forward to the Fork Union game it is going to be a great test for us this season. John runs a great program at Fork Union.  Right now we are one of the premier post grad football programs in the country.

2/25
I’m very excited about recruiting.  Recruiting is about over here at North Carolina Tech.  We have a very good recruiting season. We have 25 3 and 4 star players, about 26 2 star, about 19 1 star, and about 15 ESPN ranked players.  We are looking forward to a great season.

2/1/09
We have a tough schedule this year and I am very excitied about it.  You know there are only 4 great prep schools out now, NC Tech, Fork Union, Milford, Hargrave.  Our schedule gets tougher and tougher every year.  I do respect Prince Ave Prep who has a wonderful program in South Carolina.  This is probably our biggest signing year here at North Carolina Tech.  We are very excitied for National Signing Day and that will be a big day for us.

1/17/09
We had made some changes on our Defensive staff and we are looking forward to the up coming recruiting season.  As of this point now we have signed several ranked 4 and 5 star players.  We are pressing real hard to get our defense back to the glory years.  We have named Coach Worthington as our Defense coordinator.  He is probably on of he best recruiting Coordinators in the country.  We moved Coach Bell to Linebackers.  Also, we are in the building phase of our program and will be breaking ground in Dec 2009.  The building funds are doing well right now.  Recruiting is doing extremely well.  We are very excited for the 2009 season.

11/1/08 - Volt Bowl
We got invited back to the Volt Bowl.  We got to play a team in our own conference, Jireh Prep.  Jireh came into the game 7-4 and we came into the game 13-2.  We played well in all three phases of the game, offense, defense, and special teams wise.  I thought we finised on a bang and we got to get back to our winning was.  I made some defensive staff changes.  We are excited fro the 2009 season.  We are on the grind for the recruiting season and are very excited for the 09 season.

10/26/08
We look forward to go down to Georgia.  Georgia State is starting football next year and they also have a legend coach.  Bill Curry did a great job at Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia Tech and I know he will do a wonderful job at Georgia State.  We got a chance to play their club team, which those kids are trying to make the varsity team, so it was a good change to play them.  We pretty much dominated the game and scored on our first four possessions taking a 34-0 lead at halftime.  We came out in the 2nd half and our Defesnse struggled a little bit, but they did play well and we did not have many possession.  We finished 48-14 but were not really happy with our defense.  We did not get many possessions on Offense and could not get the explosion on Offense that we usually have.

10/17/08
Anytime you play a legend, in Jon Shuman is a great honor.  They had a great football team, they were big and physical.  They came down and scored early on us and then we took control of the game on our 2nd possession and led the entire game.  We controlled the game offensivley.  We just did not finish.  The last five minutes of the game we were up by five and we needed some stops and we did not get them.  They scored 15 points in five minutes.  We came back down and scored to make it closer.  I give all created to Fork Union but we beat ourselves.

10/7/08
I am very glad we had the opportunity to play an ACC opponent.  I think Coach Friedgen has one of the best programs in the country.  This was a real test ot se hwere our program was at the time.  I was very happy with the effort.  It is our first lost and we did not take advantage of our opportunities.  Nothing to take away from Maryland, they have a great football team but we shut them down in the 2nd half and I was happy how we finished the game.  It was a tough lost for us.  We are looking forward to a tougher challenges in the future.

9/28/08

This was a very exciting game.  We played well on offense and defense.  Wesley has a lot of great talent.  I thought the kids had a lot of fun at this game.  We had 326 yards on the ground and we had 470 yards of total offense this game.  This was with rotating quarterbacks.  I had to admit this is one of the best teams I have ever had.

9/23/03
Very good football team, very well coached.  It was a really good test with our kids and our kids did very well.  Offensively we played very well.  Real impressed with our whole team effort.  I think we have turned the corner as a team.

9/16/08
Very, very impressed with Rowan.  Very well coached football team.  Rowan was a strong, physical, and athletic team.  They are ranked in Division III nationally.  They have been our toughest test so far.  Very impressed with Rowan University.

9/8/08
Had an excellent team and wealth of tradition their at the program.  They have won 14 conference championships and 3 national championships.  It was a privilege to play them.  Their team was very strong and physical.  They were also well coached.  George Richardson played an excellent game for us.  Georgetown is national ranked in NAIA and I see them going very far this year in the NAIA playoffs.

8/30/08
I was very impressed with there size and there were very athletic.  The score does not dictate the game; we did not play as well as we should have played.  I think in the next couple years Carolina Prep will be a great program.

8/17/08
I was very impressed with Jeirh this season.  They were very big and physcial.  They were the first team to hold us to 15 points in the first quarter, but we had an offensive explosion in the 2nd quater scoring 34 points.  Pastor Feely is doing a great job over their with that program.  I can see them being and up and coming program.

07/27/08

I'm very excited about our home opener on August 7th.  Providence Prep has a very good football program.  They finished their season 14-0 last year.  We are looking forward to the challenge.
The Providence Prep Quarterback passed for over 4,000 yards and 40 Touchdowns last year.  Our defense is up for the challenge.

We have had over 100 colleges contact our office.  They are waiting in anticipation to see this year's crop of football players.  We have added to our roster, a top reciever from Pittsburg, Edward Tinker.  Also, Blake Doole from Georgia.  He is showing early signs in training camp that he will be a great one.

Our Quarterback position is very competitive.  We have 2 All-State Quarterbacks as well as a great reciever core.  Our defense can be compared to the 1st years defense with our strength and linebacker core, and the secondary.  We are very big up front. We have upgraded in our coaching staff.

Coach Worthington has done a wonderful job recruiting this past season and as far as I am concerned he is probably the best in the country.

07/07/2008

I was very disappointed in the defense last year.  This was the most points scored during a season in my coaching career.  We really needed to make some changes earlier in the season but we chose to make a change afterwards by hiring Donta' Jones as the defensive coordinator to fix the defense.  We also made some coaching personnel changes to better our football team.

This is the best recruiting class in the 3 years of our existence.  Alot of these recruits are ranked by ESPN, Rivals, and Scout.  I am very excited about the upcoming season, especially our defense.  We have had over 40 players sign scholarships last year but this year may top the last two season.  There are only 4 premier PG programs in the country that do it right, NC Tech, Fork Union Military Academy, Hargrave Military Academy, and Milford Military Academy.  Tune in to the Tim Newman Coaches Show to here more about Tiger Football on 1370AM.

09/02/2007

I am very optimistic about this year's season. It will be very hard to repeat last year’s performance. We finished the season 12-0 and Southeastern Regional Champions. We led the nation in scoring and total defense. We had a number of kids sign scholarships. We will have a tougher scheduleAe the very best compete. We brought in Stephan McQuage from East Gaston who led the state in TD passes last year with 56 TD passes. He is battling Robert Johnson, Chasten Player from Houston TX and played in the Texas All Star Game, Willie Johnson, William Love and Quenton Vaughn. Also we have Michael McDowell, the #2 receiver in the state of NC played in the N C East West All Star Game. As well as the top two receivers out of the state of FL, Laron Moss and Andre Taylor from Miami. We have probably one of the best running back ever in the state of NC, Carter Sharp from E E Smith. Who rushed for 415 yards and 5 TD in one game and over 1000 yards in 3 playoff games and 6000 yards in his HS career. Adding at running back will be Sanquan Davis from Charlotte's Victory Christian who was All State and MVP of the State All Star Game. Concord's NW Cabarrus Jay Bostick who played in the

N C East West All Star Game will be playing fullback for the tigers. Archie Barrow from Winston Salem Reynolds, finished 6th in the nation at the 100 meters in 2006 and was 2nd in the state in the 200 meters. He rushed for 1400 yards in 2006 will also be playing in the tiger backfield. A L Browns Scott Stallings who also played in the N C East West All Star Game will be anchoring the offensive line for the tigers this year. Players who look good in camp this year are Hopewell's Corey Walker, and Orlando FL, Kadeam Baccus. These are some of the players who will be rounding out the offense for the tigers.

Anchoring the defensive line will be Victory Christian's Michael Awute who is All State. Also on the defensive line is A L Brown's Kevin Canu who signed with Army. Also we have Brandon Peterson from Crest HS. These are just a few of the good players on the defensive line for the tigers. We also have linebacker standout Josh Gibson from Statesville HS and from Shelby Crest Evan Bostic and Charlotte's own Ronnie Armstrong from Vance HS and from Independence HS, Jerome Byrum. Some bright spots on defense will be Delvin Ferguson from Newton Conover, Charles Brown from Raines HS in FL, and one of the brightest spots is Chase Waldo also from Vance HS. The tigers have added 2 great punters, Shelby Crest's Josh Patton and Eddie Silavong from A L Brown who are first team conference.

The tigers will have over 25 players from the Charlotte and surrounding areas.
